Southern California Chinese Lawyers Association
Virtual Employment Rights Clinic
Together with Bet Tzedek Legal Services, APAWLA, and APABA, Southern California Chinese Lawyers Association (SCCLA) seeks volunteers for a Virtual Employment Rights Clinic.
Immigrant and low-income communities have been economically devastated by COVID-19. Asian American communities in Los Angeles are no exception. The clinic's goal is to provide assistance to Chinese-speaking workers in Los Angeles County with work-related issues.
The clinic will be held virtually every Wednesday, 4-8pm from June 3-July 29. Volunteers must be available by phone for a 2-hour block (between 4-8pm). Bilingual abilities (English and Chinese) preferred, but not mandatory. Attorneys and non-attorneys (e.g., law students, paralegals, translators, etc.) are welcome to volunteer.
Volunteers conduct intake interviews of callers seeking pro bono legal aid for employment issues, with a focus on serving Chinese speakers. Volunteers will gain experience working directly with supervising attorneys and discussing how California law applies to the callers' unique circumstances.
