Provisionally Licensed Lawyers Under the California Supreme Court’s administrative order approving New Rule 9.49 issued on October 22, 2020, the provisional licensure program allows eligible 2020 law school graduates to practice law as provisionally licensed lawyers under the supervision of fully licensed lawyers who meet the requirements of the rule and who agree to assume professional responsibility over the work of the provisionally licensed lawyers. The program will terminate June 1, 2022 unless extended by the Court. The purpose of the program is to allow provisionally licensed lawyers to engage in all of the same activities that a fully licensed lawyer is permitted to engage in, under their supervising lawyer's supervision and subject to certain restrictions, and to expand access to justice. In furtherance of this program’s objective of inclusion of provisionally licensed lawyers, the Southern California Chinese Lawyers Association now allows provisionally licensed lawyers to register as regular members of our organization. Provisionally licensed lawyers who are members of the Southern California Chinese Lawyers Association shall be entitled to the same benefits as attorney members. |
